Same thing as always as far as I can tell. Her second day score was a full four points lower than her first, so I imagine a fall or two and some other major, probably random, errors.

I have to agree with Rawles. Shawn never ceases to fascinate me, however. She seems like a normal seventeen year-old girl, and yet she’s not, given her accomplishments. I am curious to see whether she returns to gymnastics, and if so, whether she will be a strong competitor or a has-been.

My suspicions that she won’t be back at all are based on the things that she’s been saying over the past few months moreso than what she’s been doing. The farther we get away from the Olympics the less interested or excited she seems about gymnastics, in general, frankly. Which, I suppose it to be expected, but when she goes from the (still vague) “I’d do anything to experience that again!” to talking a lot about how she doesn’t feel like she has any unfinished business and she’ll basically get back into the gym whenever… Well, it just starts to seem like the love is gone.

And there’s also the issue that for someone like Shawn who has a fair deal of fundamental technical shortcomings, the longer she stays away and the more she grows, the harder it will be for her to come back.

That said, I’m certainly not saying there’s no way she’ll come back late in the quad to make a run for London, but I’m not exactly expecting it either.

I think she’ll be back. Shawn has always managed to compete extremely well without spending all day at the gym, and we’re only at the very start of the new quad. 2009 does look pretty out of the question, but it isn’t that much of a competition year anyway. Perhaps we’re all underestimating how much energy the girl has. I’d really like to see her keep on the elite scene, especially since she’s not NCAA eligible.

I think it’s looking less and less likely that she’s really planning on coming back at all, frankly. Which isn’t all that surprising given rumors last year that she more or less planned to quit post-Olympics since right after 2007 Worlds.

I guess there’s a possibility she could plan on returning in 2010 or later, but 2009 seems completely out of the question at this point.

That is pretty amazing that she is doing this show! But the 2009 American Cup is right around the corner, and Nationals following it. Shouldn’t Shawn be getting back to the Gym? I wonder if she is going back?

Bross and Wieber never really competed against each other… 2 years difference and 1 or 2 levels different at the time Bross was at Geddarts.
